A SIGNIFICANT STEP IN THE FIELD OF SUSTAINABLE PLASTIC WASTE MANAGEMENT

MOL Group has received the ISCC Plus certificate for its chemical recycling activities at its Tiszaújváros site, verifying that the plant complies with the regulations and enables the company to create a comprehensive value chain that includes the entire life cycle of plastic waste.

MOL Petrochemicals, the Tiszaújváros site of MOL Group has received the International Sustainability and Carbon Dioxide Emissions Certificate (ISCC Plus) for its chemical recycling activities. The certificate, issued by the independent organization SGS, verifies that MOL's plant complies with the regulations and enables the company to create a comprehensive value chain that includes the entire life cycle of plastic waste.

This value chain begins with the activities of MOL Hungary Waste Management Nonprofit Ltd., as MOHU plays a key role in collecting plastic waste and transforming it into valuable resource. The company is passionately committed to achieving the EU goals, targeting significant increase of domestic recycling rate, from the current 32% to 65%.

MOL Group wants to start trial production this year, the aim of which is to expand the company's product portfolio with chemically recycled polymers. The company's goal is to make its products made from post-consumer recycled materials (PCR) available to small and medium-sized businesses. These PCR grades can be used for contact sensitive applications, like food contact packaging.

In addition, medium-term plans of MOL Group include the construction of a pyrolysis plant with a capacity of 40,000 tons in Tiszaújváros, thereby emphasizing the company's commitment to a more sustainable future for the plastics industry.
